6-Week Painting Courses are an opportunity for you to practice painting different subject matter with a range of professional techniques. Each 6-week course will focus on specific techniques, tools, and mediums, including techniques of watercolors, realistic acrylic painting, introduction to oil painting, the human figure, still lifes, portraiture, and more. A new painting course begins every 6 weeks.

Painting courses include 6 online classes. The classes take place in real-time every Monday at 6:00pm Pacific Time via Zoom. Take a look at our schedule to see what’s coming up. If you missed a class in the course and still want to join, you’ll get access to recordings so you can catch up before the next live session.

Essential Drawing
Course for Beginners

Tuesdays
6:30pm-8:00pm PST

You will learn the most important aspects of drawing from the very beginning. You will build the foundation for rendering basic objects and environments, and become ready for practicing these techniques with more complex subjects in future drawings. All the techniques of the Essential Drawing Course are done in monochrome (black and white) so that the students keep their focus on structure, tonality, shading, form, and texture.

This drawing course includes 12 online classes. The classes take place in real-time every Tuesday at 6:30pm Pacific Time via Zoom. You can join the course at any time – each class is an independent technique.

Wednesdays

Each 6-week drawing course will focus on specific techniques, tools, and mediums, including soft pastels, shadows, perspective, the human figure, still lifes, portraiture, and more. Every 6-weeks, a new course will be announced.

Advanced Coaching

Thursdays and Fridays

Advanced Coaching classes are for those that like independent project-based learning. Prompts are introduced to the class and students are taken through the process of creating art made for professional developments. Every artist creates a unique piece, as each student develops their own idea, separate from the instructor and other students. When you join these classes, you can expect deep conversations with other enthusiastic artists, learn to master your drawing and painting skills and create amazing art that is ready for submission to exhibitions and galleries.

These classes are every Thursday and Friday, 10am Pacific Time via Zoom. Projects are typically multi-month long. Pre-requisites apply to join this class. Please email hello@primamateriainstitute.com to learn how to join.

Figure Drawing

Saturdays

Draw a clothed or nude model and learn to draw the human form with a range of materials. An instructor is in every class to give you personalized feedback on your drawing or painting.
