Learn how to create a three-dimensional abstraction inspired by Frank Stella. You will learn how to utilize cardboard wood, paper, and paint and create an extraordinary piece of contemporary art.

Frank Stella was a famous abstractionist who invented a unique art form where he assembled his materials into sculpture-like layers raised above the surface. In this course, we will study Stella’s innovative use of materials and create our own spacious abstraction. Looking at many examples of Stella’s abstract designs (that are in the world’s major museums and private collections) will help us channel this master in how to decorate the shapes of our own construction by painting them in vibrant colors. This course will teach you how to be creative, see new possibilities of contemporary art, and make abstract art in 3D. You will learn Stella’s process step by step, and paint, cut, construct, design, and assemble, to produce your own masterpiece.

Fun fact: Frank Stella's work hangs in the San Diego Museum of Art!

Absolute beginners welcome, no art experience necessary.
