All of our classes are online via Zoom. Our instructors and our students have fallen in love with the online format. Our students are getting incredible results from our online sessions: students attend more classes, make more art, are getting better faster, and still enjoy the benefits of in-person lessons like personalized feedback and a wonderful community, all from the comfort of their home.
Plus, no more traffic, lugging supplies back and forth, or trying to find parking. And now there are recordings of every session!
Join the Essential Drawing Course for Beginners. This course was made for people who want to learn to draw realistically in just 12 lessons. No prior art experience is needed.
The instructor will guide you through each lesson with informational slideshows, live art demonstrations, and personalized feedback. Plus, each class comes with a home assignment so you can continue practicing on your own.
After this course, you'll be comfortable to take any other course we offer.
We recommend everyone start with the Essential Drawing Course for Beginners because 1. it's always good to get a refresher of the basics, and 2. because we teach art differently than other art schools. Although this class has "beginner" in the name, the concepts introduced are some that even intermediate and advanced artists don't know.
If you're good on the basics, then check out our other drawing and painting courses. All of our other courses focus on specific mediums, subject matter, and techniques. We frequently schedule new courses so you'll always have something new to explore. Artistic expansion is one of our specialties! If you're signed up for our newsletter, you'll always be the first to know about our newest courses.
We have a College Art Portfolio Program that covers every area of the portfolio process, from skill building to college submissions. Click here to learn more.
You'll need:
• An internet connection
• The latest version of Zoom downloaded on your device
• If you want to get feedback on your art, a camera and microphone
• The supplies for the class (after registration, you'll get a confirmation email with the supply list)
• A space to create art in, which can be anything from a dining room table to a dedicated art studio
• An open mind and a willingness to try new things!
The art supplies differs depending on the course. Every course has a supply list with conveniently linked materials so you can purchase the necessary items right away. We also have a supply list page where you can see all of our favorite supplies in one place.
You do not need to purchase the specific supplies we link. Use the supplies you already own. There are some mediums where we recommend only one brand (tempera), but other than that, we try to be as flexible and accommodating as possible. In the supply list, we'll let you know if there are alternatives available or if the technique requires a specific medium.
For some techniques, our instructors will even give out versions of materials that you can find in your kitchen cupboards! Our favorite is making an ink alternative with coffee or tea. One aspect of being an artist is knowing how to be creative, not just in your art-making but also with the materials you use to make the art, and it's a skill we teach our students in every class.
If you aren't sure if your supplies will be suitable for a specific course, feel free to reach out to the instructor of the course you registered for. You will be able to reach them through the registration confirmation email.
Absolutely! When we first made the switch to online classes back in 2020, even our instructors didn't have a dedicated art space in their homes. But we're big advocates for adapting and being resourceful. Since 2020, we've helped hundreds of people carve a space in their home (our instructors included). Some students worked in their hallway, others had an art room, others repurposed their dining table.
If you need help figuring out how to create a space that's conductive to art-making, contact the instructor through the registration confirmation email. No matter your situation, we'll give you practical recommendations to make it work!
There are two ways to access the class:
1. By email: The Zoom link is automatically sent to registrants 2 hours before the class starts.
2. Through your WellnessLiving account: Simply log in, click on "My Schedule", and in "Upcoming Sessions", you'll see "Join Session". Click that and you're in!
Every student has a unique link for each class, so previous links won't work for future sessions.
If you did not get the link and you registered more than 2 hours before class, first try logging into your WellnessLiving account and make sure you're registered. If you are, then you'll be able to join the class from "My Schedule".
If you bought the course but are for some reason not registered, reach out to your instructor as soon as possible. Please keep in mind the instructor may not see your email if you contact them 30 minutes before class starts.
All of our classes are recorded and uploaded, so if you miss it live, you can always catch up by watching the recording.
You can watch available recordings here. If you're a member, you automatically have access to current and past classes in your membership tier. If you bought individual courses, you'll have access to that course's recordings.
