In this course, you'll have the opportunity to explore how to make your art more personal and meaningful by tapping into the emotional power of your old family photographs. You'll be encouraged to delve into your own archive, selecting a dozen or so of the most meaningful shots that resonate with you today. You'll reflect on the events of your childhood, the faces that awaken the fondest memories, the family moments you want to re-live, and the ancestors who shaped your family's history. Through your artwork, you'll create a connection to these precious moments, infusing your paintings with a sense of authenticity and personal narrative.
This course will guide you through the process of using your family photographs as inspiration for your art, helping you explore the stories behind the images, and delving into the emotions and memories they evoke. By means of painting in monochrome with Burnt Sienna or Raw Umber on large canvas, you'll create a vintage, historical look to your painting. You'll learn various artistic techniques and approaches to bring these photographs to life on canvas, expressing your own unique perspective and interpretation. You may discover that this connection to your roots has been a missing link in your process as an artist.
One unexpected outcome that many students in the past have experienced is the profound impact their art can have on their family and loved ones. As you delve into the stories behind the old photos and reach out to family members for their input and stories, you may uncover hidden gems of family history and create stronger connections with your loved ones. Your artwork has the potential to touch hearts, create love and connection, and bring your family closer together in ways you may not have anticipated.
By incorporating your family photographs into your art, you'll not only create a unique collection of new work, but also gain a deeper understanding of your own personal history and heritage. You'll discover how this connection to your roots can enrich your creative process and add layers of meaning to your artwork. This course offers a valuable opportunity to explore the artistic potential of using family photographs in your art, resulting in a truly authentic body of work that reflects your own unique perspective and experiences.
