Welcome to a 6-week painting course that will take you on a journey to discover the Fauve style! Fauvism was an art movement that originated in France, which is known for its use of intense color and expressive brushwork. In this course, we will focus on the popular subject of boats on water, which was a favorite of Fauve painters. By studying the French Fauvists, you will learn how to intensify the vibrant colors of nature and capture the raw energy of this expressive European movement.

We'll start by creating three studies in color to establish the brilliant sunny palette and explore the Fauve touch, which is very specific and based on the psychology of color. You'll learn to quick-sketch with the brush and practice the Fauve technique. These studies will lay the foundation for a larger, more refined painting of boats in a bay, with reflections, waves, and sunlit distant shores. This will be your personal interpretation of Fauve landscapes. You'll discover how to create an interplay of color, lights and shadows, rippled water of the sea, and clouds illuminated by the sun, utilizing the Fauve techniques you’ve learned.

Whether you're a seasoned painter or just starting out, this course will definitely reinvigorate your palette and infuse new energy into your paintings.

At the end of the course, you'll participate in an impromptu online exhibition and discussion where you can share your work with your fellow artists and receive feedback on your accomplishments. So, if you're looking to infuse your art with a brighter palette, more expressive brushwork, and explore Fauvism's raw energy, join us on this 6-week painting course to discover how to paint boats on water in the Fauve style.

Course is designed for intermediate to advanced level. This is a good course for those who have only done drawing and want to learn painting. No prior painting or color-mixing skills - no problem, but some drawing skills are a must.
