Soft Pastels

Soft pastels are an incredible medium for its vibrance and versatility. Despite being dry, many artists who work with soft pastels describe their process as painting. This is partly due to the painterly quality of finished pastel artworks. Additionally, the option to introduce water to the pastels and manipulate them further using a brush contributes to this perception.

Soft pastels are a fantastic way to bridge the gap between drawing and painting.

Two types of pastel: Sennielier soft pastel and nu-pastel (you will need both) No oil pastel, please
400 grit sanded paper, clay or white, 12x16" or any size (if you order online from Blick, give it a few weeks to ship. Their shipping is often slow)
Any pencil and eraser
Blending stumps
Gloves or finger cots (be sure to get your size)
Sponge to wipe fingers
Workable fixative spray, however framing is recommended instead of spraying
Scotch Delicate Surface Painter's Tape‍
Paper towels
Smooth, sturdy surface to tape watercolor paper to, such as wooden board or foam board
Set of hair paint brushes
Cup for water
