In this project, we will construct a posh interior in one-point perspective on a giant canvas, using threads of yarn and pushpins to help us establish the Vanishing Point, the Horizon, Picture Plane and Line of Vision - all the key perspective elements. A great exercise for architects and interior designers, this is also an excellent training for anyone who wonders about how the Renaissance Masters created those grand rooms outfitted with curtains, mirrors, paintings, and hid all the signs of drafting.

You will work off of an image of your liking that will serve as a starting point, with the objective to produce a piece the size of a mural, in paint on canvas. We will start by building the skills for constructing that space in perspective and then learn how to achieve the true magic: disguising all that draftsmanship and create a luscious maximalist painting of an opulent interior.

Artists and art students who’ve done it all, join to have this skill under your belt. You’ve never been in the shoes of a French or Italian Master tasked with rendering a grand indoors! Find your image on the internet or in design magazines, or if you’ve traveled to Europe and visited a royal palace, or have access to an opulent mansion, or perhaps you live in one, then you can get a photo-reference of your own!

Some students may feel that this project is too challenging for their level. However, the only thing that you need in order to qualify is to complete the Essential Drawing Course. The project will be divided into steps to make it achievable even by new students. The instructor will offer personalized guidance in every class.
