Mail Model - Collage Made of Postage Materials

Add diversity to the style of your figurative work! In this course, you will be rendering a man’s likeness, combining several mediums: pencil, pen, watercolor, tonal wash, brush, scissors, and glue. By cutting, collaging, drawing, painting and designing you will fuel your creativity. This versatile mixed-media project will be a fun way to learn how to create a figure in ten different mediums at once, and work on unusual substrates.

This process will utilize anything that has gone through the postal service: postcards, envelopes covered with stamps, handwritten letters, reminders, fliers, and even thank-you notes. A figure, drawn on a letter, gets enriched as it acquires a story. If you have old letters in your family archive, or old photos, that are too precious to cut them for art, but you would still like to use them, you can preserve them by making laser copies of them. A male model will aid our inspiration in this eccentric, non-traditional technique. There will be a lot of examples, a demonstration, thought-provoking group discussions, and personalized feedback.
