Whether painting has been a secret dream or just something you’ve been putting off for “someday,” now is your time. You’ll get comfortable with acrylic paints, brushes of all sizes, and working on canvas. With each class, you’ll be guided through a project and then have instructions to complete a similar painting on your own as independent practice. This course is made for beginners!

In this unique, two-part process, you’ll work on a massive canvas, likely taller than you are, to create a piece that merges abstraction with observational realism in a powerful and visually striking way. The final result is something truly compelling—a high-contrast fusion of expressive abstraction and intimate realism, of color and grayscale, of chaos and control. This course is for all levels - the instructor will guide you every step of the way.

You will be taken step by step through drawing an accurate realistic rendering of a nude figure from observation. Every artistic issue will be explained to help you apply them one-by-one so that you can complete and refine your drawing in five weeks. The instructor will demonstrate each step and provide personalized feedback on how to enhance your drawing and achieve perfect, portfolio-level doneness.

In 12 classes, you’ll learn the techniques of drawing from the beginning. The drawings above are by students who joined this course as absolute beginners. You will build the skills by rendering objects and environments with a teaching method found nowhere else. All drawings will be created in monochrome (black and white) to focus on the basics: light and shadow, line, and dimension.
